Closing Shift Keys: How to Find All Four and Escape

Where to Find the Four Keys

Closing Shift keys are hidden in searchable containers throughout the restaurant’s rooms and hallways. You need four exit keys and a four-digit code to call the elevator back. Finding the combination alone won’t get you out while the elevator’s deadbolts remain attached.

Search drawers, cabinets, closets, and boxes instead of looking only for loose objects. Ask the Puppet at the security desk for help, and pay attention when the game displays “A key is close.” Use that message as a reason to search nearby containers thoroughly.

To begin the restaurant search:

  1. Go down the stairs to the sealed hatch.
  2. Hold and turn the large wheel until the hatch opens.
  3. Search containers in the rooms and halls for keys and code scraps.
  4. Read pickup messages so you know what you found.
  5. Return to the base terminal once you have the four exit keys and complete combination.

Keep track of searched rooms as you go. Revisiting an empty hallway won’t help if you keep passing the same unopened cabinet.

Room Keys vs. Exit Keys

A key pickup doesn’t always mean you’re closer to removing an elevator deadbolt. The restaurant also contains keys for individual rooms, including the dining room, women’s restroom, Kitchen B, and backstage.

Read the name attached to each pickup. A dining room key gives you a destination to investigate; it isn’t interchangeable with an exit key.

Use room access to expand your search:

  • Match named keys to the corresponding room.
  • Search newly accessible rooms for more containers and notes.
  • Watch the exit-key objective separately from room-key pickups.
  • Follow nearby-key messages with a careful search rather than immediately moving on.

There’s also an endo room key associated with the ENDO ROOM badge. That challenge involves getting past the endoskeletons and opening the cabinet at the back. Keep its purpose separate from the elevator objective.

Find the Code Scraps and Use the Terminal

The four-digit combination is a separate requirement from the keys. Look for notes while searching the restaurant’s drawers and cabinets, and read each one before leaving.

Record the digit and its position. A note identifying the first digit tells you where that number belongs, not just that it appears somewhere in the combination.

Keep a simple checklist:

  • Four exit keys collected
  • All four code positions filled
  • Combination entered at the base terminal
  • Elevator called

If the terminal accepts your combination but reports that deadbolts are still attached, return to the key search. Reentering the same correct code won’t satisfy the missing key requirement.

In multiplayer, the Puppet explains that discoveries are shared across the group. Divide your search areas and communicate pickups so everyone isn’t checking the same drawers.

The Puppet at the security desk accepts speech, typed questions, and choices from a dialogue list. Use the list when you need a specific explanation about the objective, flashlight, or hiding. Asking for a tip also earns A LITTLE ADVICE.

Closing Shift — Use the Puppet and Cameras During Your SearchImage: Roblox / DoggyTroug

Cameras help you inspect rooms and recognize routes before heading back into the restaurant. Use them to orient yourself when a named room key leaves you unsure where to go.

They also matter when the game warns that someone is outside or inside. Find the intruder on the camera feed and use the camera light against him. Successfully flashing the squatter away earns CAMERA SHY.

In a group, assign someone to check cameras during those warnings while the others search. Rotate that job so the team keeps making progress through the restaurant.

Stay Alive Long Enough to Finish Searching

The animatronics respond to different threats and cues. Keep these rules in mind while opening containers:

  • Foxy: Keep your flashlight aimed at his face until he retreats.
  • Singing: Stay in the room when the birthday song plays.
  • Birthday party: Remain seated and stay silent during the singing.
  • Voice chat: Keep conversation brief; the animatronics can hear you.
  • Doors: Use barricades to buy time, but expect pursuers to kick them in.

Press F to toggle your flashlight. Its battery recovers while the light rests, so switch it off when you can spare it. Keep enough charge available to face Foxy.

If you’re pursuing badges alongside the escape, BY THE BOOK requires you to personally find a key and a code scrap, then escape in the elevator during the same night. Shared team progress doesn’t replace those personal pickups for that challenge.
