How to Stop Foxy With Your Flashlight

The Closing Shift Foxy encounter puts your flashlight aim under pressure. Keep the beam on his face to hold him back until he retreats. His speed makes that response especially important when he catches you searching the restaurant.

Foxy has a specific weakness: light directed at his face. The challenge is keeping your aim steady when he approaches and resisting the urge to swing your view toward every nearby sound.

When he comes toward you:

  1. Bring your flashlight onto his face. Aim deliberately instead of sweeping the beam around the hallway.
  2. Keep the light steady. Maintain your view of him throughout the encounter.
  3. Wait for him to retreat. Use his withdrawal as your cue to return to searching.

Focus on the face rather than simply lighting the space around him. The instruction is specific, and the badge tied to this encounter rewards holding him back until he withdraws.

Manage Your Light While Searching

Your escape objective requires four keys and a four-digit code. Those items are hidden in drawers and cabinets throughout the rooms and halls, so you'll need to search while keeping your flashlight available for Foxy.

Once you've collected all four keys and the code, enter the code at the terminal in the base to call the elevator. For BY THE BOOK, find a key and a code scrap yourself, then ride the elevator out in that same night.

Pick up batteries when you find them, and watch your remaining supply. Save unnecessary flashlight use between encounters so you have light available when you need to face him.

In a group, ask a teammate to continue searching while you keep Foxy in view. Give short, clear directions so everyone understands why you're holding position. Avoid turning away to inspect a drawer while you're the one keeping the beam on him.

The restaurant also has closets, vents, and doors you can barricade. Animatronics can break through barricaded doors, so use those obstacles to buy time rather than settling behind one indefinitely. Keep Foxy's light response in mind even when an escape route is nearby.

Earn the STAND YOUR GROUND Badge

Closing Shift — Earn the STAND YOUR GROUND Badge

STAND YOUR GROUND requires holding Foxy back with your light until he retreats. The badge has been awarded 6,464 times.

To pursue it, keep your flashlight trained on his face through the full encounter. Briefly illuminating him and immediately fleeing doesn't fulfill the stated objective: the retreat is the part you're working toward.

Keep these two goals separate when planning a run:

  • STAND YOUR GROUND: Hold Foxy back with light until he retreats.
  • IN THE DARK: Escape with your light off for the entire night.

A flashlight defense against Foxy conflicts with the lights-off requirement. Attempt them on separate nights so your response to a chase doesn't undermine the challenge you're pursuing.

Handle Voice Chat and Other Threats

Closing Shift's animatronics can hear voice chat, and saying the right thing can sometimes persuade one to spare you. During a Foxy approach, keep your attention on aiming the flashlight instead of cycling through pleas while he closes in.

Closing Shift — Handle Voice Chat and Other Threats

Keep team chatter brief while moving between search areas. If you need help understanding the restaurant's rules, visit the Puppet at the security desk; you can speak, type, or choose a question from its list.

Foxy's flashlight weakness is only one part of surviving the night. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Golden Freddy, and Fredbear follow their own rules. When singing starts, stay in the room, and follow the birthday party's instructions to remain seated and silent during the song. Pay attention to the encounter you're in before reacting to a familiar voice or nearby movement.
