Closing Shift Walkthrough: Four Keys, Code, and Escape

The elevator shuts behind you, and getting the code right is only part of escaping. This Closing Shift walkthrough takes you through the four-key objective, the camera warnings, and the encounters that can end your run before you reach the exit. Keep your headphones on: a quiet kitchen, approaching footsteps, or the start of a song can change what you need to do immediately.

Security Desk: Ask the Puppet and Open the Hatch

  1. Speak to the Puppet before heading downstairs. You can talk, type, or select a question from its list. Use the list when spoken questions aren’t getting a useful response.
  2. Ask about your objective and survival tools. Your main escape requirements are four keys and a four-digit elevator code.
  3. Go to the bottom of the stairs. Hold the large wheel and keep turning it until the hatch opens.
  4. Enter the restaurant and begin searching. Keep track of the route back to the security desk so you can return for advice or camera access.

Asking the Puppet for a tip earns A LITTLE ADVICE. Its guidance is useful throughout the run, especially when you have the numbers but still need keys.

Before heading through the hatch:

  • Ask how the flashlight works.
  • Learn where the cameras are.
  • Agree on search and camera duties if you’re playing with friends.

The restaurant supports solo play or a group with up to 10 friends. Coordinate searches around the shared objective: the Puppet explains that discoveries count for the group.

Restaurant Search: Collect Keys and Code Scraps

  1. Search drawers, cabinets, closets, and boxes. Open searchable containers rather than expecting every objective item to sit in plain sight.
  2. Read each key’s label. Room keys, including keys for the dining room, kitchen B, backstage, and playroom, appear during exploration. Keep them distinct from the four keys needed for the exit.
  3. Use room keys to expand your search. Check newly accessible rooms for more containers and code scraps.
  4. Collect the code information for your current run. Keep searching until you have all four digits.
  5. Check both requirements before returning to the elevator. Finding the complete code doesn’t finish the key objective.

The distinction between room access and escape progress matters. Picking up another named room key doesn’t mean the elevator’s remaining locks are ready.

For BY THE BOOK, personally find a key and a code scrap, then escape in the same night. If a teammate is collecting everything, take responsibility for at least one of each.

Keep an eye out for:

  • Code scraps while checking containers for keys.
  • Batteries during room searches.
  • Newly accessible rooms after collecting a labeled key.

Different animatronics demand different responses. Use the threat’s behavior to choose your next move.

ThreatWarning or behaviorResponse
FoxyApproaches while vulnerable to lightKeep your flashlight aimed steadily at his face until he retreats.
FreddyHunts through sight and sound; can break doors during a chaseReduce noise, break line of sight, and keep moving beyond a closed door.
ChicaFollows noise; the kitchen becoming quiet signals she is outCrouch to reduce movement noise and listen before continuing.
FredbearHas to squeeze through doorwaysPut doors between you and him to gain distance.

Holding Foxy back until he retreats earns STAND YOUR GROUND. Save flashlight power for that encounter: press F to toggle the light, and switch it off when you can let its battery recover.

Closets and vents give you hiding and movement options, but entering one doesn’t erase a pursuit. Listen for a faint servo tick before using a closet; that sound warns something is already inside. Barricades also buy time rather than permanent safety, since animatronics can kick doors in.

For Bonnie’s encounters, read the rules on the wall and follow the instructions you receive. Talking to an animatronic can lead to being spared, but a conversational line isn’t permission to approach carelessly. SILVER TONGUE rewards successfully talking your way out of danger.

Camera Warnings: Drive Away the Squatter

An outside warning interrupts the search. Respond to it instead of continuing to open drawers.

  1. Check the outside cameras. Use the location named in the warning to find the relevant view.
  2. Locate the squatter on the feed. Scan the camera view rather than assuming the threat will be centered.
  3. Use the camera’s flash/light function on him. Watching him without activating the light won’t perform the same action.
  4. Return to searching once the immediate warning is handled. Continue responding if another camera alert appears.

Flashing the squatter away through the cameras earns CAMERA SHY. If he gets inside and starts dragging a teammate away, rescuing that player earns NOT ON MY WATCH.

Keep the two light interactions separate: Foxy needs your flashlight aimed at his face, while the squatter warning sends you to the camera system.

Birthday Party: Stay Seated and Respect the Silence

The birthday event interrupts normal exploration. Once it begins, stop treating the room like another place to search.

  1. Stay in your assigned seat. Leaving the table breaks the party’s rules.
  2. Listen to Freddy’s instructions. The event includes moments when questions are invited and moments when silence is required.
  3. Stop speaking when the singing begins. Don’t keep chatting with teammates through the song.
  4. Follow instructions to look away or ignore what is happening. Keep your attention on the current command.
  5. Wait until the party is dismissed. Resume the key hunt when you are told to leave.

The critical distinction is timing. Being invited to speak earlier doesn’t carry over into the song.

Living through the event earns PARTY GUEST. A separate badge, DON’T LEAVE, rewards staying in the room while the birthday song plays and surviving.

Elevator Escape: Finish Both Requirements

  1. Return with all four required keys and the complete four-digit code.
  2. Use the code at the elevator. Enter the digits collected during your run.
  3. Deal with the remaining locks. A correct code alone won’t release an elevator that still has its deadbolts attached.
  4. Ride the elevator out once the escape requirements are satisfied.

If the elevator tells you its deadbolts are still attached, return to the key hunt. Reentering a correct code won’t replace missing keys.

The Puppet can help identify what remains. If it tells you that you already have all the numbers, focus your next search on drawers and cabinets for the remaining keys.

Escaping in the elevator earns CLOSING TIME. Completing an escape without dying earns NOT A SCRATCH; pursue that alongside careful searches and disciplined responses to encounters.

Phase 1 Front-Door Ending: Follow the Final Instructions

Ending spoilers follow. Phase 1 has a front-door finale with a chained exit and instructions delivered over the radio.

  1. Walk toward the front when the dawn instructions begin. Keep moving instead of stopping to inspect the stage.
  2. Avoid looking at the stage.
  3. Use your last key on the front-door padlock. The chain is attached from inside.
  4. Leave the fallen chain and push the exit bar.
  5. Keep walking outside without turning around.

The radio presents the parking lot as safe and urges you onward. The closing sequence then reveals that the voice guiding you was part of the threat, ending with a promise of its return.
